Optronics Systems Engineer

Systems Team Leader

The Optronics Systems Engineer’s primary focus is to drive the design and integration of optical, Electrooptical and Laser based sensors into the system design ensuring best practice and the highest safety
standards are maintained.
The Optronics Systems Engineer will be involved throughout the project life cycle from project definition
to design implementation, including requirements capture and management, technical risk management,
system architecture development, functional analysis, concept generation and evaluation, interface
management, subsystem procurement, system verification and validation.

Security

  • Due to the nature of the work all candidates must be eligible to obtain security clearance to SC level.

1. Take the engineering lead for multidisciplinary projects requiring optical, Electro-Optical or Laser
(LRF, Target Designation) capabilities.
2. Capture stakeholder requirements
3. Champion awareness of full product lifecycle in the product design phase, including manufacturing,
safety, reliability, availability, maintainability and disposal
4. Identify and manage interfaces
5. Develop system and sub-system requirements in order to define functions that must be performed
6. Evaluate and down-select system solutions.
7. Identify and manage technical risks and opportunities.
8. Technical content of bid and proposal preparation.
9. Participating in customer meetings.
10. Report generation.
11. Verification and validation planning and testing.
12. Undertake customer and service visits by car, when necessary. As such a full current driving licence
is required.
13. Lead the integration on products in development.

Qualifications

• A good Engineering Degree or equivalent preferred

Experience

• Post graduate experience
• Optronic background preferred
• Product manufacturing background
• Ideally have experience across full product lifecycle

Knowledge

• Requirements management
• Matlab and Simulink desirable
• Working knowledge of Mil Specs and Def Stan’s
• Reliability prediction, FMECA, FTA
• Safety cases
• Knowledge of product qualification tests and methods
