Electronics Production Engineer

Department: Operations
Reporting to: Production Engineer Team Leader

Reporting to the Production Engineering Team Leader the post holder will be responsible for optimising the manufacturing processes of electronic systems within the Instro product range. This involves working with the design team to ensure that the introduction of new products has the appropriate build processes, test equipment, jigs and fixtures and that they are produced to facilitate the manufacture of products within time, quality and cost. Carry out fault diagnosis and repair of products that fail during the manufacturing process and identify faults on equipment that has been returned for repair from customers. Working within the wider Instro team to support the introduction of new products and support the existing product line.

  1. Responsible for managing the standards, methods and procedures for the design, modification, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment (jigs, fixtures, tooling) and production processes.
  2. Develop and deliver production plans, build documentation and route cards for a variety of engineering projects from final design through to series production.
  3. Develop best practices to improve production capacity, product quality and manufacturing reliability.
  4. Support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including New Product Introduction (NPI) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) activities.
  5. Responsible for all production engineering activities associated with Transfer of Technology (ToT) projects.
  6. Develop operating instructions, work instructions and equipment specifications for production activities.
  7. Carry out additional tasks and activities as required by management.
  8. Lead appropriate technology selection, evaluation and implementation.
  9. Produce technical notes, reports, test specifications and engineering documentation as required.
  10. Provide production support including fault finding, root-cause analysis and documenting corrective procedures.
  11. Development of automated process equipment through the integration of electronic control systems and bespoke software solutions, including the design and introduction of Special Tools & Test Equipment (STTE) to enhance manufacturing efficiency, repeatability, and test capability.

Qualifications

  • Electronic Engineering Degree level qualified or relevant experience

Experience

  • Relevant experience in a design or manufacturing role.
    • Electro mechanical systems
    • Control Systems

Knowledge

  • Good level of mechanical & Electro-Optic understanding would be an advantage.
  • Control theory with working knowledge of servo systems and control loops. ·
  • Knowledge of EMC, Mil-Std 461 and 810 advantageous.
  • Knowledge of IPC: IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/21, IPC-A-620
  • Digital signal processing and data acquisition.
  • Knowledge of PCB manufacturing and inspection process.
  • Development of Test Scripts and UI Software
  • Interface control between electronics, firmware, and mechanical systems ·
  • Knowledge of Test & Measurement Equipment such as but not limited to Oscilloscopes, Digital Multimeter (DMM), Power Supplies (PSU), Electronic Loads

  • Advantageous: 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
  • Strong mathematical skills.
