Quality & Health and Safety Manager

Department: Quality Assurance
Reporting to: 
Managing Director

Reporting to the Managing Director the post holder will be an experienced Quality and Health and Safety professional and an active member of the management team.

Maintain and develop the company IMS to ISO9001:2015 & ISO14001, applying the process of continuous improvement throughout the organisation.

Act as Quality champion for national, international and Military standards and legislation at all times. Primarily responsible for the strategic and operational management of Quality Assurance / Product test facility. He/she will also proactively influence and guide Quality NPI integration, and a significant contribution to manufacturing related projects.

Deputise for the Managing Director in the execution of Safety, Health, Environment & Fire compliance.

Continually drive the company core values throughout the business.

Ensure due diligence is given to company security aspects and policies.


  • Due to the nature of the work all candidates must be eligible to obtain security clearance to SC level.

  • Act as an internal and external consultant on Quality and Regulatory issues working in either a leadership or team role within a cross functional team.
  • Provide Technical and Managerial expertise and creativity used to evaluate proposed solutions, adaptations and modifications to projects to include; new product introduction, product and process changes and related validation processes & support for the production floor.
  • Resolve Quality related problems within functional areas of the business, recommending and driving changes where necessary through the review, evaluation and development of personnel.
  • Develop and direct the implementation of plans to achieve Quality goals and objectives within functional areas to produce the desired outcome.
  • Ensure that the company is working in a safe manner and that all legal requirements are complied with.
  • Develop, review, approve and improve internal policies and procedures in the respect of the SHEF legal requirements.
  • Conduct and coordinate audits and assessments
  • Work with internal and external resources, customers and suppliers to drive the verification of conformity and resolve problems.
  • Recommend changes to other areas that will continually improve the overall effectiveness of the organisation.
  • To undertake as required, customer and supplier visits by car. As such a full driving licence and a valid passport is required.


  • Degree / HND / HNC qualified in an Engineering related discipline.
  • Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship.
  • Lead Assessor Audit Training.
  • NEBOSH/IOSH Practitioner Qualification.


  • Past Experience in Lean manufacturing methodology – essential.
  • Experience in project and product management, including product development and new product introductions.
  • Experience writing Quality inputs to proposals, negotiating and coordinating outside contractors and agencies.


  • Proven, demonstrable and thorough knowledge of ISO 9001-2015, ISO.
  • ISO 14001.
  • Knowledge of AS9100, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience gained through a recognised qualification in an Engineering related discipline with a minimum of five years’ experience in a relevant industry sector.
