Quality Engineer

Department: Quality Assurance
Reporting to: Quality Manager

The Quality Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring products and processes meet quality standards required to minimise costs and maximise customer satisfaction whilst ensuring that procedures and processes are adhered to.

The focus will include the management of supplier quality, ensuring materials meet required standards and are processed as efficiently as possible. Supporting quality control and operations team on all technical issues affecting quality and processes. In addition; raising 8D [NCR] reports, conducting root cause analysis and speedily resolving problems, supporting process improvements, conducting internal site and supplier audits as required.

Security

  • Due to the nature of the work all candidates must be eligible to obtain security clearance to SC level

  • Assist the Quality Manager in the development, control and maintenance of supplier and quality control initiatives
  • Monitor supply chain and production processes and perform regular tests, audits etc to identify potential problems and malfunctions
  • Identify the root causes of technical, system or process issues and implement RCA & CAPA
  • Prepare reports and documentation e.g. supplier KPI’s, trend analysis, ITP’s, Concessions, change requests etc as required
  • Working with internal teams to support or lead customer return, 8D, continuous improvement activities & material/part investigations
  • To undertake as required, customer and supplier visits (full current driving licence and passport required)
  • Provide senior quality control support e.g. testing, measurement, analysis as required
  • Provide training and support to support systems, policies, procedures and core processes

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree / HND / HNC (or equivalent) in engineering discipline
  • Experience of lean manufacturing

Desirable:

  • ISO9001 internal auditor

Experience

Essential:

  • Quality assurance, manufacturing and testing experience
  • Use of 8D, 5 Why problem-solving techniques
  • Use of MRB, FRACAS, FMEA and APQP
  • Supplier, process and system auditing
  • Effective presentation of data and identifying problem area through analysis
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and use required equipment to confirm inaccuracies
  • Ensure the consistent application of quality techniques
  • Working with cross functional teams

Desirable:

  • Use of environmental chambers and shakers
  • Manufacturing in a high value, low volume settin

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Understanding of ISO9001

Desirable:

  • Understanding of ISO14001, 27001 and AS9100
  • Appreciation of UK defence standards
  • Ability to use CMM (Coordinate-measuring machine)

Essential

  • Effective communicator both written and orally
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
  • Ability to take initiative and make decisions
  • Good time management, organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Focused approach with ability to prioritise work and have a flexible approach to deal with unexpected events
  • Analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills
