Quality Engineer

Department: Quality Assurance
Reporting to: Quality Manager

As a quality engineer your primary role is to monitor, plan and improve business processes whilst increasing production output and product quality.

You will be responsible for introducing new processes and procedures, determining quality standards, driving continuous improvements, and resolving problems. You’ll also be required to collaborate with the wider team to embed lean methodologies which involves challenging processes, equipment and people to improve capability, reliability and performance all whilst keeping the design and manufacturing process as effective and cost-efficient as possible.

Other areas of focus for the role includes the creation of acceptance test procedures, inspecting materials, equipment, processes and products, developing quality control systems, maintaining the calibration system, conducting internal audits and determining corrective actions.

Security

  • Due to the nature of the work all candidates must be eligible to obtain security clearance to SC level

  • Resolve quality issues through the structured application of problem solving and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Complete First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs).
  • Monitor calibration system & ensure equipment is continually calibrated to schedule.
  • Support prototype, sample and controlled product change builds through pre-production and production cells.
  • Complete internal product and system audits, perform any necessary duties as an internal auditor.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline
  • ISO9001 or AS9100 internal auditor

Essential Experience

  • 4 years engineering, manufacturing and QA experience
  • Use of problem solving techniques
  • Effective presentation of data and identifying problems area through analysis
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and use required equipment to confirm inaccuracies
  • A strong work ethic, effective time management abilities and good organisational skills
  • Desirable: Manufacturing in a high value, low volume setting

Essential Knowledge

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Ability to complete FAIR’s
  • Understanding of ISO standards e.g. 9001 and or AS9100
  • Desirable: Understanding of ISO14001, 27001 and AS9100. Understand and or qualified in lean principles and the ability to use CMM (Coordinate-measuring machine)
  • Effective communicator both written and orally.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritise work and have a flexible approach to handling unexpected events
