Craig Mackinlay, our local MP, visits Instro

We were all delighted to welcome Craig Mackinlay, the Conservative MP for South Thanet, when he visited the company for a tour of our offices and factory here at Pysons Road on Wednesday, 24th August 2016.

As our local MP, Mr Mackinlay was given an ‘access all areas’ tour of our manufacturing and testing facilities as we’re understandably proud of our achievements. During the tour he was shown a selection of our products, which we export to more than fifty countries, while some of our technical staff explained the need for our products’ robust nature and the degree of precision engineering that features in both their design and manufacture.

Mr Mackinlay, as any local MP would be, was particularly interested in seeing those products whose success is prompting our planned investment in a new, state-of-the art manufacturing facility in his constituency; creating new jobs for his constituents; improving the nation’s defence capability and adding to its export order book.

Amongst the products shown to Mr Mackinlay was the Wasp, a high-performance, motorised pan-and-tilt unit that’s used as a platform for an impressive variety of long-range sensor and surveillance units. He also saw prototypes of the new sighting system being developed in cooperation with Lockheed Martin against the specification issued by the MOD to upgrade the British Army’s Warrior infantry fighting vehicle and Challenger 2 main battle tank.

After the tour, Mr Mackinlay commented on the planned move to our new premises in Discovery Park in Sandwich, saying: "Instro Precision is a cutting-edge company delivering first-class products that will give British soldiers the very best battlefield equipment available. Instro's new facility will cement its status within our community as a valued employer delivering local jobs and investment. Not only do I welcome their move to Sandwich, to what will be an incredible facility, but I will be fighting for their bid to help upgrade the Challenger 2 main battle tank for the British Army. I want our boys given the very best equipment at every opportunity and I cannot say how proud I am that it is South Thanet that delivers it."

It was a great opportunity to showcase our design and manufacturing capabilities and show our local MP the contribution we’re making, both to the local community and to the country’s export success. We look forward to welcoming Mr Mackinlay again following the move to our new home in Discovery Park next year.
